Short Film Welcome to Willits: After Sundown Getting Feature Expansion
Plenty of great horror films started out as shorts, including Saw and The Babadook. Now director Trevor Ryan’s Welcome to Willits: After Sundown makes the leap from short-form to long-form, and we’ve got all the details on tap for you today!
As reported by Variety, Warm Bodies star Teresa Palmer (below) has been cast as the female lead in an upcoming feature adaptation of the sci-fi/horror short, which was part of SXSW’s Midnight Shorts competition.
The story will focus on a group of young campers who get lost in the woods near Willits, Calif. — the heart of “the Emerald Triangle” — while looking for hot springs. They find themselves entangled with a man whose mounting paranoia about alien invaders makes him increasingly dangerous.
Palmer’s real-life husband, Mark Webber, will reprise his role from the short as the paranoid man, and Palmer will play his niece. Director Trevor Ryan and his screenwriter brother, Tim Ryan, will also return.
In the meantime check out the original short below!
