Today on VOD – Dead Rising: Watchtower and Nightlight

Today marks the theatrical expansion of this year’s horror darling It Follows (review), though those who prefer to stay at home will find a couple new genre flicks hitting their favorite VOD outlets. So read on for today’s new releases!
First up, a hit video game franchise gets the feature film treatment in Dead Rising: Watchtower, which launches on all VOD outlets today. The adaptation comes courtesy of Crackle and is directed by Leprechaun: Origins’ Zach Lipovsky. Jesse Metcalfe, Dennis Haysbert, and Virginia Madsen star.
As in the video game, Dead Rising: Watchtower is set during a zombie apocalypse. When a mandatory government vaccine fails, a group of survivors must evade infection while hunting down the root of the epidemic, which leads back to a government conspiracy.

Also new on VOD outlets today is Lionsgate’s Nightlight, available in conjunction with a limited theatrical release. Scott Beck and Bryan Woods directed the film, which looks to boast supernatural thrills and chills.
Undeterred by the news of a classmate who recently took his life in the mysterious Covington forest, five teens journey into the forest for an evening of flashlight games and ghost stories. But their plans go awry when the friends awaken a demonic presence, an unseen evil that will seize upon their deepest fears—and plunge them into a nightmare of absolute terror.
