Now There’s an Attack on Titan Live-Action TV Show on the Way

Just in case you foolishly believed only Hollywood could milk a popular property dry for every penny it’s worth, in addition to the original manga series, four manga spin-off titles, a 25-episode anime series, a second season of the anime due next year, two compilation anime films, and two big screen live-action movies, now comes word that a live-action Attack on Titan series is also in the works.

Anime News Network reports that Hajime Isayama’s manga series that ballooned into a global phenomenon following the release of the first season of the anime series will now get a live-action series premiering on Docomo’s dTV streaming service in August, just in time for the release of the first Attack on Titan live-action movie. This is not a coincidence as the TV show from the sounds of things is more of a supplement to the series than its own entity.

The TV show will focus on the character of Hanji and will tell new stories regarding the day-to-day lives of her character and other soldiers waging war with the man-eating giants that keep the remnants of humanity captive behind gigantic walls.

Satomi Ishihara will play the role of Hanji, same as Ishihara does in the live-action films. Several other actors from the movies will reprise their roles. New characters will also be introduced.

No word as to if or when the series will be available to those of us in the West, but I’m willing to bet the bootlegging will begin the second the first episode airs.
