Gather around. An amazing haunt is coming to a town near you. Two trailers done up with skulls, spooky hallways, and jump scares. But something awaits the faint of heart in an enclosed space adjacent to the possessed video monitor you have just been starting at.

A door opens; you are asked to sit down and don an Oculus Rift headset, the means by which you are immersed in the 4D world of Insidious. To talk about it is to say too much—but it is a one-of a-kind scary experience where you will meet ghosts… and they are very happy to meet you.

So make sure you catch the trailer when it makes its journey to you. The experience has crept its way to Chicago as of the date of this post, slowly making its way to NYC on the 5th of June, opening day of Insidious Chapter 3. Dread Central urges all you fright fiends to go; it shouldn’t be missed—or maybe you will be missed if you don’t survive it.

This journalist did and spoke to writer, now director of the Insidious series, Leigh Whannell (Saw). He elaborated (in the video below) on his vision and where it has evolved contextually—inspired in part by William Friedkin and what he brought to the genre in The Exorcist: realism to amp up an already terrifying concept.

Blumhouse Productions’ Insidious: Chapter 3, the newest chapter in the terrifying horror series, opens domestically nationwide on Friday, June 5, 2015. MPAA-rated “PG-13,” Insidious: Chapter 3 stars Dermot Mulroney, Stefanie Scott, Angus Sampson, Mr. Whannell, and Lin Shaye, with the latter trio reprising their roles from the first two movies in the franchise. Insidious: Chapter 3 is written and directed by Mr. Whannell. This chilling prequel, set before the haunting of the Lambert family, reveals how gifted psychic Elise Rainier (Ms. Shaye) reluctantly agrees to use her ability to contact the dead in order to help a teenage girl (Ms. Scott) who has been targeted by a dangerous supernatural entity.
