Universal Dates Ouija Sequel for 2016
Though most horror fans absolutely hated last year’s Ouija, as it was mostly for younger audiences, the film made a killing at the box office, ensuring that a sequel wasn’t far off. And indeed it has been confirmed today with a date already set. Read on!
Deadline reports that Ouija 2 will begin its theatrical haunt on October 21, 2016, with Oculus scribes Mike Flanagan and Jeff Howard attached to pen the screenplay. A director has not yet been announced.
Ouija 2 picks up with a group of unsuspecting friends who must confront their most terrifying fears when they unleash an evil from the other side that only they can send back.
Platinum Dunes partners Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, and Andrew Form; Blumhouse Prods’ Jason Blum; Hasbro’s Brian Goldner; and Stephen Davis again are onboard as producers.
In the original film…
After Debbie (Shelley Hennig, “Teen Wolf”) suddenly dies, her best friend, Laine (Olivia Cooke, “Bates Motel”), attempts to contact her using an antique Ouija board she finds in Debbie’s room. When the curious teen begins asking the board questions and stumbles upon the mystery of her friend’s death, Laine discovers a resident spirit calling itself DZ, and eerie, inexplicable events begin to follow her. The group of friends dig deeper into the history of Debbie’s house and are shocked to find that Debbie wasn’t the first victim—and won’t be the last if they don’t figure out how to close the portal to the spirit world they’ve opened.
