A big screen remake of Paul Verhoeven’s Starship Troopers has been rumored for many years now, though it’s been some time since we’ve heard anything concrete about the 1997 film coming back to life. Today that silence is broken, as the cult classic may be headed to the small screen.

In an interview with HitFix, producer Neal H. Moritz spoke briefly about the project, revealing that plans are in motion to either remake the film or turn it into a television series.

We’re developing it. We’ve actually been talking about either doing it as a feature or doing it as a television show,” Mortiz told the site at CinemaCon. “So, we’ll see.”

In Verhoeven’s film, humans in a fascistic, militaristic future do battle with giant alien bugs in a fight for survival. Starship Troopers spawned two direct-to-DVD sequels, most recently in 2008, as well as an animated series.
