A Truly Twisted Short Film

After a night with the girl of his dreams, Michael has a story to tell and a favor to ask in a Twisted short film from Australia.
Dark, ingenious, and borderline demented, the Australian short Twisted is part confessional, part psychological thriller, and wholly creepy, playing with levels of reality in exploring just how far a teenage boy will go to get what he wants.
Shot in Sydney over two days and one very long night last year on a microbudget of just $4,500, the film stars Claudio Trovato in his first film role as Michael, a teen with a dark tell to tale and a shocking favor to ask. The film features a mesmerizing and unsettling performance by Trovato; it was co-directed by young directors James Hartley and James Shepherd and written by 19-year-old Georgia Symons.
Twisted is shot in a bold style, exploring the boundaries between film and performance. As Michael tells his story directly to the camera as a monologue, he slips between real and imaginary worlds; and the film reflects that journey, with the sets literally breaking down as Michael moves from scene to scene. All of the effects were achieved in-camera with the crew working frantically out of range to achieve the effects of morphing from one reality to another. The effect is startling and gives a dreamlike quality that moves quickly to becoming a nightmare.
The film has had a great response on YouTube and has been described by Short of the Week as “a short you just can’t take your eyes off.”
