Grave Tone Productions is comprised of a group of people I met at Texas Frightmare Weekend a few years back.  If you remember from my reviews of them, they specialize in a more metal-oriented version of the kind of spooky music popularized by Midnight Syndicate.

Those same cats have formed a side company, iKILLu Media, to focus on their non-musical endeavors.  The first fruit of that work is Who’s There?, a short film that they shot back in 2012 and have just completed.

Who’s There? is a nasty little tale of trick or treating gone wrong.  Prominently featuring Grave Tone’s music, the short stars GTP partner and co-writer of the film Jay Brooks as a man in rural Texas just trying to get through Halloween night while handing out candy along with some messages of the Good Book.  A rather oversized trick or treater keeps returning for more candy, and it’s not long before our holy candy man starts to dread the knocking at his door.

To say more would spoil it, but it’s safe to say this one doesn’t go quite where you’re thinking it’s headed.  Clearly shot on a shoestring budget and directed by first time filmmaker and GTP main man Brian Davis, it’s more entertaining than it should be.  While Brooks isn’t going to win any awards for his acting, the role doesn’t require an Oscar-winning performance, so he does well enough for this part.

I’m fairly certain a little fat could be trimmed from the 16-minute running time, especially a fairly lengthy credit sequence, but considering the budget and the history of the creators, it’s a fun little Halloween treat.

You can give it a spin right now on YouTube if you’re in the mood for a dose of Halloween fun.
