When I sat down to watch this movie, I knew nothing about Regression. I had not read any reviews, nor had I even seen a trailer. The only bit of promotion I had seen was the poster artwork. Honestly, I was pleasantly surprised by how gripping the film is.

From the first frame I was hooked. The cinematography is amazing; partnering that with tremendous acting, Regression took me on a ride I enjoyed and didn’t want to get off of. Going in blindly, I was surprised to learn that the film was going to take the route that it did. I wasn’t aware it was going to look at satanic cults, and frankly, it intrigued me.

However, the film does have its flaws, and they are mostly in the third act, which is serviceable but could have been tightened up. The twist is given away much too quickly in my opinion, and honestly, it is a slight letdown. I stated above that I didn’t want Regression to end, and that is true; I just wish they would have gone in another direction. Even so, I cannot express enough how good the acting is; both Hawke and Watson deliver performances that are engrossing and engaging. You get sucked in while watching the two of them in action.

Overall, I wholeheartedly recommend Regression if you are looking for something a little bit different (it’s available now on Blu-ray/DVD from Anchor Bay, but the extras were unavailable for review). Seek this one out, and give it a watch. I look forward to seeing what comes next from these guys!
