Sudden Reality (Short, 2016)
Starring Matthan Harris, Sarah Kate Allsup, Jacob McGregor
Directed by Matthan Harris
To love, honor, and hold true the sentiments of affection towards another is a prize to the heart to behold – then again on the opposite end of the spectrum, there are those who covet in a much needier way. Director Matthan Harris (who also co-wrote, produced and stars in the lead role) delivers a love story that borders on the fringes of control and possession, and I’m not talkin’ about the demonic kind. Let’s escape from this dreamlike state and take a trip to Sudden Reality.
This 17-minute short features Harris as a college student named Josh, who’s had a crush on Jessica (Allsup) since way back in the day… and when I say “crush,” I mean heavy weighted in literal terms – this guy would do anything just to get close to this chick, and when his reality of the two of them being together comes crashing down (another fella is in the mix), Josh takes his affections to another level, and that’s when things begin to spiral out of control (boy, that’s an understatement).
It’s a fun little display, and Harris frankly kills it on all facets with this one. While it isn’t the most memorable quickie I’ve set eyes upon in the past year, it’ll still stick out in my mind when someone I know wants to profess their undying love for another…”Uh, can I show you a little something before you pledge your devotion?” Give it a look when it comes your way.
