Killer Waves (2017)
Starring James Balsamo, Natalie Henriquez, Ace Von Johnson
Directed by James Balsamo
Sand, surf and salacious bodies, all waiting to get disrobed, then dissected by the ever-so-pun-filled murderer from beyond the ocean – it’s all contained inside Killer Waves, the latest demented romp from Acid Bath Production’s own unhinged head-honcho, James Balsamo. It’s surely safe to say, make sure you wash out your trunks after checking this one out, for there is no greater annoyance than shore-granules in your cracks.
Starring Balsamo as a professional surfboard-maker, the film is set against the backdrop of the Killer Waves Surf Contest, and amidst all the hoopla surrounding the event, someone is turning all of the competitors into shark bait. He goes by “The Unholy Diver”, and his one-liners are almost as vicious as his kills – sporting an old-time diving helmet and spear in which to effectively kebab his victims, the identity of this nutcase will go unknown for some time. Detective Holster (seriously) is on the case, and if it takes forever to comb the beaches to find this brutal sadist, then consider it done…unless someone does him in first. The plot is easy as pie to roll along with, and there are plenty of, ahem – “distractions” thrown in to try and swerve your investigative skills.
Balsamo, who normally stands front and center in his own productions, although listed as one of the main stars, takes a step back and lets the other performers here shine in the sunlight, and there sure are a bevy of names on this cast-list. Cameos from names like Pantera’s Phil Anselmo, Robert Kurtzman, Genoveva Rossi, Robert Maillet and Carmine Capobianco are just a few that are along for this salty ride along the oceanfront. There certainly is no shortage of blood, boobs or boneheaded humor – all the things that make an Acid Bath flick worth the watch, and the best way I could describe it would be to toss The Endless Summer, Beach Blanket Bingo and Point Break (the original, not the remake for Pete’s sake) into a cage and let them fight to the death. All that’s left would be to hose down the chunks after the battle’s over- make sure to check this one out when it washes up near you.
