Mothman Of Point Pleasant, The (2017)
Starring Lyle Blackburn (Narrator)
Directed by Seth Breedlove
If the legend of the mysterious Mothman has been one that’s intrigued you for some time, then allow me to direct you towards the latest documentary from director Seth Breedlove titled: The Mothman Of Point Pleasant. If this one doesn’t put a chill down your spine, then you’re a stronger soul than I am.
Setting the table here is Breedlove and his Small Town Monsters gang, as they delve into the mysteries surrounding the somewhat fear-inducing figure known as The Mothman – with a history lesson offered up about Point Pleasant itself, we then move along to a story about a curse that was thrown down upon the land, resulting in natural disasters aplenty and the belief that the cure was legit. Trust me, I can do NO justice in explaining how innately creepy these nuggets of information are, and as the documentary rolls on, you haven’t heard anything yet. With interviews aplenty regarding sightings, incidents and reports abound, it’s not until the tale of the Silver Bridge collapse is when my skin began to turn cold. Back in December 1967, the bridge itself (which connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia to Ohio) gave way, sending dozens of vehicles into the icy water below it, claiming 40-some lives – some people swear that the sight of the Mothman immediately preceded the collapse.
The remainder of this intriguing documentary attempts to chase down the legend itself over the course of time, and pays particular attention to the growing phenomenon it’s already become, spawning films, festivals, and even a museum dedicated to the mysterious entity. It’s a detailed look at one of those unexplained things that still manages to petrify those somewhat close to the origin point to this day – highly recommended to check out if you’re a fan of all things unknown and intently frightening – give it a look when it creeps your way.
