SCREAM #49 (Magazine) – Welcome to the Jungle!

Despite being published in the “quaint English countryside” Scream has established itself as a premiere horror magazine with subscribers hailing from America to Japan to New Zealand (and many places in between). As we all know, the Internet Age has been murder on print media, leaving a serious void as the glossy, blood-splattered genre mags of the 1980s and 1990s have, for the most part, gone the way of the dodo bird. Scream’s endurance in the digital era is a testament to the consistent quality of its content and sterling reputation the publication has established among genre aficionados.

For the uninitiated, Scream is a bimonthly periodical with each issue featuring 100 full-color glossy pages, injecting eye-popping imagery straight into your cranium! Issue 49 (July/August 2018) just hit stands last week, and Americans can pick up their copies at Barnes and Noble or Books A Million locations nationwide; Canadians can check for Scream at Chapters Indigo stores while those across the Pond can procure copies at Eason Books in Ireland and WH Smith Stores throughout the UK.

Issue 49 features Dread Central’s own Howard Gorman conducting an interview with Hereditary director Ari Aster; it’s a must-read for fans of 2018’s most shocking horror film so far, especially if you’ve wondered if any elements of the film (specifically the family dysfunction) are autobiographical. Also, fans of our reoccurring column Exhuming TALES FROM THE CRYPT will definitely want to check out Svetlana Fedotov’s “History of EC Comics”.

Other featured content includes: An incredible retrospective of 1980’s Alligator which includes interviews with screenwriter John Sayles along with stars Robert Foster and Robin Ricker (who played David and Marisa); an examination of Italian cannibal movies of the 1970s and 80s; Kat Ellinger’s look back at Hammer’s dark fairy tale The Gorgon; Michael Gingold’s interview with Day of the Triffids star Janina Faye, and much more.

Scream is the kind of magazine genre lovers can get seriously lost in, something that brings continued joy with repeat readings. The publication’s mix of current news and classic retrospective means there’s something for every generation of horror fans, no matter which genre is your forte. Pick up your copy today for content that’s often as educational as it is entertaining.

If you’re hoping to get bi-monthly copies of Scream delivered right to your doorstep, visit their official website at www.ScreamHorrorMag.com; digital and back issues are also available. Scream’s next issue will make the publication’s 50th issue, a milestone that coincides with every horror fans favorite time of year: Halloween!
