Maniac Cop 2 (Blu-ray / DVD)Starring Robert Z’Dar, Robert Davi, Claudia Christian, Leo Rossi, Michael Lerner, Bruce Campbell, Laurene Landon, Clarence Williams III, Charles Napier

Directed by William Lustig

Distributed by Blue Underground

This sequel to Maniac Cop pits Matt Cordell (Robert Z’dar), the crazed, murderous “Maniac Cop” of the first film (now horribly disfigured after a particularly brutal stay in prison), and Turkel (Leo Rossi), a serial killer who likes to murder strippers, against a frenzied NYPD detective, Sean McKinney (Robert Davi), who is just one step ahead of a nervous breakdown.

Anyone who has read my writings or listened to podcasts over the years should already be well aware of my love for Maniac Cop 2. The kind of love that cannot be adequately conveyed in mere words on the printed paper or, should I say, computer screen. Being aware of Matt Fini’s shared love of the Maniac Cop franchise and knowing he also did not hesitate to buy the new Blue Underground 4K remastered Blu-ray/DVD combo release of Maniac Cop 2 and its black sheep follow-up Maniac Cop 3: Badge of Silence, I asked him to join me in the recording of a quick little audio review covering both Blue Underground releases. I reckoned it would take 20 or so minutes.

64 minutes later…

Is this one of the world’s longest Blu-ray audio reviews, or should it simply be considered a special edition of the Foycast?

Either/or, Fini and I spent over a hour dissecting, praising, criticizing, joking, etc., all things Maniac Cop 2 (and 3) and all aspects of the new special edition Blu-ray release of this William Lustig/Larry Cohen tour-de-force.

If for no other reason you’ll want to hear this just for the opening when I bust some rhymes freestyling the Maniac Cop 2 rap. I should probably have the right to remain silent forever after doing so.
