Done In (Short)
Starring Guy Henry, Gordon Styles
Directed by Adam Stephen Kelly
From the minute that Adam Stephen Kelly’s short film Done In started to play on my laptop, something had hooked me, whether it be the engaging lead character (Henry) or the sullen atmosphere in which he sat, penning a final goodbye to whoever may have read it.
Normally a short film, even though reduced in time, will sit back for a few and allow its viewers a moment or two to soak in the surroundings, but this particular offering makes you feel as if you’ve pulled up a chair next to this sorrowful soul and are reading his suicide note over his shoulder.
His reminiscing of olden days and how he still feels pain for the loss of a loved one will draw you in, almost sympathizing to the point where you feel as if you knew this man and are fearing for the last few precious moments of his life. Kelly makes the absolute most out of the sub-eight-minute mark and slams you in the chest with the film’s conclusion.
If I truly had to search for a negative (which would be a stretch), the length of time would be it; however, it would have completely defeated the purpose, plus I’m simply too greedy to settle for less. This is an absolute must watch for a short film and will definitely snag my highest assessment.
