Last Chance: These Thrilling Movies Are Leaving Netflix This April

The turnover rate for genre titles on Netflix is rapid. A ton of genre favorites have appeared on the streamer over the last few months. But, as quickly as they appeared, they’ve disappeared, giving us only a few months to check them off our watchlist. That’s why I wanted to highlight a few movies I’m not ready to see leave Netflix. I’m making it my business to stream these titles one last time because we never know when we’ll see them again in these streaming streets. These four films prove not all reboots suck, remind us that sometimes terror is where the heart is, and encourage us not to take ourselves too seriously.
It (dir. Andrés Muschietti)
A group of bullied outcasts join forces to fight a shape-shifting monster that preys on the children of Derry, Maine. Moving this adaptation of the beloved Stephen King classic to 1989 wasn’t the only major change It had up its scary sleeve. It also rearranged the tale to give this first film too much terror, talent, and care that it continues to overshadow the sequel, It Chapter Two. While I am very fond of the original miniseries, this version also makes me giddy, and it has become one of my favorite King adaptations. It’s the perfect horror movie for warm weather, and we should all revisit it before It: Welcome To Derry starts, anyway. So, I’m running to rewatch it before it leaves Netflix because I’m not an April fool.
Scream (dir. Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett)
Copycat killers decide to bring a new reign of terror to Woodsboro 25 years after the Ghostface murder spree that started it all. Scream (2022) is one of my favorite installments and literally gave me everything I ever wanted out of a Scream requel. So, I’ll watch it anytime I catch it streaming. This film understood the legacy of this beloved franchise and also knew it was time horror fans got to see themselves in these all-white worlds. If I hadn’t been a Radio Silence kind of girl after Ready or Not, I would have jumped on the bandwagon after they introduced us to our core four.
Hereditary (dir. Ari Aster)
A family’s matriarch passes away, and her grieving family discovers she has set a sinister plot in motion for them. I write about Hereditary a lot because it is one of the best things A24 has ever given us. We all remember where we were the first time we saw this iconic beheading. We also know that Toni Collette should have an Oscar for this performance. Sadly, we can never return to the moment this movie changed our brain chemistry for the first time. We also cannot make the award shows do the right thing retroactively. However, we can revisit this creepy Ari Aster tale once more before it leaves Netflix on April 15. I have to say goodbye to this nightmare fuel before then, and I hope you will do the same.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (dir. Tom Gormican)
The movie star Nic Cage must channel his iconic characters to save himself and his loved ones. I’ve been meaning to watch this comedic thriller for years. After all, who among us can resist the pull of a film starring Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal? Not me! So, I’m watching the clock and making damn sure I finally hit play before it leaves Netflix on April 16. Maybe I will use it to comfort me after Pascal restarts his campaign to rip our hearts out when The Last of Us returns on April 13. Last season taught us all to have a comfort watch on deck to help us self-soothe and drown out the endless sobbing that follows each episode. Hopefully, the dynamic duo of Cage and Pascal will help ease the emotional and psychic damage coming our way.
