5 Shocking New Releases Streaming This April

There’s a lot of new horror hitting the streaming streets this April. I’m gearing up to be the most annoying person online about the newest season of The Last Of Us on Max. I’m also very curious to see what The Bondsman is about on Prime Video, especially with Kevin Bacon back in the genre already. However, a few new films are also popping up on the streamers, which means these movies are about to get the chance to build an even larger audience.
I’m excited to hear more discourse for movies like The Monkey when it hits VOD on April 4. I’m also happy that Wolf Man is coming to Peacock on April 18. This month’s new releases are plentiful, and I cannot wait to dig into the ones I missed. Here are the titles I want to catch this April and force upon my friends!
It Feeds (dir. Chad Archibald)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A clairvoyant woman and her daughter try to help a young girl who believes an evil entity is feeding on her. I know very little about It Feeds. The only names I recognize in the press materials are Shawn Ashmore and Julian Richings. However, sometimes, it’s the projects that come out of nowhere that end up being the ones that rearrange your favorite films list. So, I am excited to see if a cool title and interesting synopsis are the recipe for success. Worst-case scenario? We see something off the beaten path and support a new indie horror movie. I also appreciate that it arrives in theaters and on VOD on the same day because not everyone feels safe going to the theater. This means no one has to be left out of the conversation if It Feeds seems like their kind of party.
It Feeds arrives on VOD on April 18.
Mickey 17 (dir. Bong Joon Ho)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
An employee discovers just how disposable he is to his company when he dies and a new version of himself is regenerated. Bong Joon Ho never misses, so I’m still trying to watch this film in theaters. However, I am excited that I can tap in from my home office if I have to. I also love that this cast includes Steven Yeun and Naomi Ackie, whom I adore. I am also pumped to see Robert Pattinson in something that’s not The Devil All the Time.
Mickey 17 arrives on VOD on April 8.
Novocaine (dir. Dan Berk and Robert Olsen)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A man who cannot feel physical pain uses his condition to rescue the girl of his dreams from deadly bank robbers. Novocaine was cuter than I typically like my movies to be. However, it did have some fun kills and body-horror moments that made me lean in. The cast is also stacked with rising genre stars like Jack Quaid, Amber Midthunder, Jacob Batalon, and Betty Gabriel. So, I’m rooting for it to get more attention when it hits the streaming streets this month. It’s a fun little movie that doesn’t require too much of its audience. While we had a ball watching Quaid play the worst boyfriends in the genre, and I am here for that filmography, it’s refreshing to see him do something different. This movie confirms that Quaid might very well be the Tom Hanks of his generation.
Novocaine arrives on VOD on April 8.
Opus (dir. Mark Anthony Green)
Where You Can Watch: VOD
A writer discovers that being invited to a pop icon’s compound is not as fun as it sounds. She soon finds herself surrounded by a cult as she uncovers their sinister reason for hosting this exclusive gathering. I love seeing Black filmmakers take some space in the psychological horror sphere. I also lived my best life watching Ayo Edebiri continue to prove she does not know how to fail. So, while Opus is not my favorite movie this year, I’m still excited to watch the film find its audience now that it’s streaming. The film also has fun supporting performances from John Malkovich, Juliette Lewis, Murray Bartlett, and Amber Midthunder.
Opus arrives on VOD on April 1.
Y2K (dir. Kyle Mooney)
Where You Can Watch: Max
Two high schoolers crash a New Year’s Eve party in 1999 and have a VERY memorable evening. I missed this movie last year but am stoked to see it finally. It’s not only because I am a 90s kid and crave nostalgia now that the 2020s constantly hurt my feelings. It’s also because it looks like a nod to teen horror comedies with ridiculous casts that we are sorely lacking these days. This cast includes Jaeden Martell, Rachel Zegler, Lachlan Watson, Mason Gooding, and Eduardo Franco. That’s an all-star cast if you’re watching the Hollywood youths who keep steady work. While I think most horror comedies are shaky, I am eager to see what this one is about. If nothing else, I doubt I’ll see anything else like it this month.
Y2K arrives on Max on April 4.
Are you bummed you might have missed your chance to see these titles in theaters? Or are you happy you won’t have to wait too long to see them? Catch me on Bluesky and tell me about it either way!
