Welcome back to your daily autopsy! Or Daily Dose of Indie Horror. Either one. Straight from cold storage, we have the teaser demo of The Mortuary Assistant, the recent in-progress project by DarkStone Digital, creator of Our Secret Below and Kohate. You might recognize this new and improved post-mortem experience from their previous teaser, though so much more lies on the table.

The Mortuary Assistant 1 - A ruby-eyed silhouette ominously stands at the end of the hall.

Scoring a fresh apprenticeship at River Fields Mortuary, you’re summoned upon a dark and stormy evening for a good old night shift all by your lonesome. Though, hey! You’ve studied for this! Surely everything is absolutely fine. No Time like the present to get embalming! Upon arriving, the semi-worm vintage office hums with an eerie quiet. Let’s hope it stays that way. Grab the clipboard, and head in for your tasks. Firstly, move the previous body, who was carelessly left alone, to cold storage.

The Mortuary Assistant 2 - Medical forceps prepare the processed old corpse for drainage.

I know usually hearing the dead mutter a single croaked sound is unwelcomed. However, the silent office is even more deafening while working on the first clay-cold corpse. But if the dead could talk, I wish they’d tell me where the formaldehyde is stored. It seems some fairly decent research was plugged into the experience, especially with all the materials used in the process. I marked my way through inspecting the body, filing paperwork, inserting tubing and trocar, draining, and replacing bodily fluids with chemicals. Oh, and the realism of being tormented by charcoal-eyed pale creatures that crawled through me cabinets, making a mess of all my supplies. Clearly in league with the shadow ladies who insisted on making my job harder by turning off the lights. Did I mention your own failing psyche, and Satan interrupting you, too? No rest for the mortician, I suppose.

The Mortuary Assistant 3 - A ghastly delusion torments your psyche.

We still have a while to go until its reported release in the Spring of 2022, but this new teaser shows great improvement over the last, almost feeling like a full game itself.
