Hello, you glorious gluttons for all things indie horror! Are you just starving for the newest of the new, the most unknownest of the unknown? If so, you’ve come to the right place. Welcome to the Ultra-Indie Daily Dose! In this series, we’re going to pick a new game every day from an indie horror creator you’ve probably never heard of. No million-dollar budgets or factory productions. This is the space for the little guy with not but a developer toolkit and a dream. So if you’re down to roll the dice on something different, then stick around and check it out!

Welcome back for another Daily Dose of indie horror! We have a fascinating game today by developer Realmpact. Created for the Scream Jam 2021, Leftovers is a delightfully creative black-and-white exploration of the residents in a bizarre apartment.

Leftovers has you playing as a very young child. Your mother has made too much food and requests that, even though you should never talk to strangers, you should hand out the boxes of leftovers to the neighbors. A simple enough task, even for a kid.

The neighbors in Leftovers are fascinating. Each one is a hand-drawn character with a bit of dialogue, a bit of visual narrative, and a very interesting style. It’s hard to tell if there are really paranormal things going on here, or if it’s just the overactive imagination of the anxious young protagonist. Regardless, you have only a few ways of communicating with them. All you have is nodding yes or no. And of course, holding out a box of delicious leftover cooking.

You can play Leftovers for free on itch.io by clicking here.
