Eli Roth Heading into Uncharted Territory for Cannibal Tale The Green InfernoSome of the adventure in the field of movie making means bringing things to the screen that no one has ever seen before. Sort of like what the character of Carl Denham had in mind with King Kong. That being said, consider Eli Roth another adventurer!

Roth recently told Movieline that he’s taking a small crew to a remote village up the Amazon River that has “no electricity, no running water, nothing.” For the privilege of filming in this unseen territory, “We’re giving these people a boat,” says Roth. “They have no contact with the outside world and we’re giving them a motorboat and we’re giving them medical supplies and school supplies so they’re ecstatic. The one thing they need is a boat. They were like, ‘This will literally change our lives’.”

Given that these folks had never seen a movie before, Roth arranged a screening for them of… wait for it… Cannibal Holocaust. “The villagers thought it was the funniest thing they’d ever seen.

The Green Inferno follows an idealistic student and a group of naive do-gooders who are captured by cannibalistic Indios after their plane crash lands in the jungle. Exclusive Media is handling international sales.

From the Press Release
Principal photography will begin November 5th in Peru on Eli Roth’s (“Hostel”, “Cabin Fever”) The Green Inferno and will star Lorenza Izzo (“Aftershock”), Ariel Levy (“Aftershock”), Aaron Burns, Daryl Sabara (“John Carter”, “Machete”), Kirby Bliss Blanton (“Project X”), Magda Apanowicz and actress/singer Sky Ferreria. Worldview Entertainment, a leading independent motion picture production and investment company, is financing and producing the horror thriller, which is directed by Eli Roth and based on a screenplay he co-wrote with “Aftershock” co-writer Guillermo Amoedo. Exclusive Media is handling the international sales to the film that will be presented to buyers at the upcoming American Film Market by Alex Walton, Exclusive Media’s President of International Sales and Distribution. CAA, which arranged financing for the film, is handling domestic rights.

Roth is producing The Green Inferno alongside Worldview CEO, Christopher Woodrow, Worldview COO, Molly Conners, and Sobras International producers Miguel Asensio Llamas and Nicolás Lopez. Worldview’s Maria Cestone, Sarah Johnson Redlich and Hoyt David Morgan will executive produce. Filming will take place over the next few weeks in Peru before moving to Santiago, Chile.

This will be Roth’s much anticipated directorial follow up to the enormously successful “Hostel” franchise, which collectively grossed over $300 million worldwide. Most recently Roth co-wrote, produced and starred in “Aftershock”; produced and co-wrote “The Man with the Iron Fists” for Universal Studios, starring Russell Crowe, RZA and Lucy Liu with Quentin Tarantino presenting; produced “The Last Exorcism Part II” with Strike Entertainment for StudioCanal; and is currently filming his new series “Hemlock Grove” for Netflix.

“The Green Inferno” is Worldview’s second collaboration with Roth after teaming up to finance and produce Ti West’s (“The Innkeepers”, “The House of the Devil”) horror thriller, “The Sacrament”, currently in pre-production in Savannah, Georgia.

Scarred For Life
Episode 266: Opus Writer/Director Mark Anthony Green and Michael Jackson's Thriller (1983)
This week we were unbelievably excited to chat with writer and director Mark Anthony Green! We talk about his feature film debut Opus, working with musical icons The-Dream and Nile Rodgers, Ayo Edebiri's star power and the eccentricities (and graciousness) of John Malkovich. Mark Anthony shares a fantastic story of John on set and so much more before we dig a bit into his horror history and find out why Michael Jackson's Thriller music video scared him as a kid. A shorter episode this week, but easily one of our favorite conversations in a long while. Don't miss it. And go see Opus in theaters!Follow Mary Beth, Terry and the Podcast on Bluesky.
